Why Hydrocarbons

Why Should I Make the Switch to Oz-Chill Hydrocarbon Refrigerant?

There Are Massive Power Savings To Be Had!

Switching to Oz-Chill Hydrocarbons will help you reduce your power bills! By using natural refrigerants in place of old chemical refrigerants like HCFC’s or HFC’s, you’ll save between 10% and 40% by means of unparalleled efficiency. Hydrocarbon Refrigerants are 50% more efficient conductors of heat than Chemical/Fluorocarbon Refrigerants, which means that your system will consume less energy to function optimally. Also, you only need approximately 35%-50% the original charge of our Hydrocarbon Refrigerants to maximize your system’s functionality. Take matters into your own hands and save more by choosing Oz-Chill’s Hydrocarbon Refrigerants.

It’s The Greener Alternative

Replace your old chemical refrigerants with Hydrocarbon Refrigerants from Oz-Chill and help us care for the environment. Everyday, we pave roads toward a cleaner, brighter future by providing the world with environmentally friendly refrigerants used in air conditioning and refrigeration systems. When you choose natural refrigerants, you are choosing energy efficient and environmentally safe alternatives designed to replace chemical refrigerants that possess harmful, ozone depleting and/or global warming properties. Help us say no to global warming and choose the natural, eco-friendly alternative: Hydrocarbon Refrigerants.

There Is Less Wear & Tear On Your Equipment

In general, hydrocarbon refrigerants are 50% more efficient conductors of heat than chemical refrigerants, and their operating pressures are approximately 20% lower. A combination of these lower operating discharge pressures and a reduction of the operating temperature within a system’s compressor reduce the compressor’s workload, thereby extending the lifespan of your equipment and keeping wear and tear at bay.

Higher Quality, Purity and Consistency

Our products are produced from refrigerant grade hydrocarbons 99% plus (the highest purity grade possible) This means that there are virtually no impurities. Other hydrocarbons may have impurities that can impact the vapour pressure of the refrigerant, therefore lowering overall system efficiency. This can also cause corrosion and could react with system components. With Oz-Chill you know you will always receive the highest quality product.

NO Carbon Tax

Because Hydrocarbons are Natural Refrigerants with zero Ozone depletion and just 3 Global Warming Potential (GWP), they are not taxed in Australia. HFC refrigerants are taxed based on their GWP, for example, HFC R410a has a high GWP of 1,890. Therefore not only are Oz-Chills refrigerants environmentally safe, but also a much cheaper alternative. Which makes them much cheaper to purchase.

Hydrocarbons are naturally occurring, non-toxic refrigerants that have no ozone depleting properties and almost zero global warming potential. Air, Water, Carbon Dioxide, Ammonia and Hydrocarbons are the most efficient and environmentally safe refrigerants in the world. They are also all natural refrigerants.

Hydrocarbons are also a much more efficient refrigerant and can save anywhere from 13% to 37% in electricity consumption over some of the old chemical refrigerants.

Due to the ozone depleting and high global warming potential properties of all existing Fluorocarbon Refrigerants, they will become phased out in some shape or form in the near future. Some of these refrigerants have already been phased out and others are on their way. Leaving Natural Refrigerants like Hydrocarbons to become one of the only safe efficient refrigerants of the future.

HCFC Phase-out Schedule – http://www.epa.gov/ozone/title6/phaseout/hcfc.html

Most air conditioners and refrigeration systems in use all over the world, still rely on Chemical refrigerants in order to provide cooling and heating. These chemical refrigerants are Hydrofluorocarbons (HFC’s) and Hydrochlorofluorocarbons (HCFC’s) which include R22, R134a and R410a.

Currently there are increasing amounts of concerning and well documented reports and conferences being held all over the world. They are due to the growing concern of the damaging effects on the environment caused by the continuous use of CFC, HCFC and HFC refrigerants in our current air conditioning and refrigeration systems!

REFRIGERANT ENVIRONMENTAL PROPERTIES

*Note: For all examples on this site, Oz-Chills 22a hydrocarbon refrigerant is used as the test example. It is also one of the most suitable and efficient Hydrocarbon Conversion replacement refrigerants.

Hydrocarbons are the future in refrigerants and are supported by both Greenpeace International and the United Nations Environmental Program.

By converting air conditioners and refrigeration systems over to the naturally occurring Hydrocarbon refrigerants there are numerous advantages, including:

  • Reduced electrical consumption
  • Reduced running times
  • No Ozone Depletion Potential (ODP)
  • Almost zero Global Warming Potential (GWP)
  • Smaller molecular size
  • Greater efficiency
  • Lubricant Miscibility

Molecular Size

The smaller the size of refrigerant molecules in a confined space, the larger is the surface area of the combined molecules.

As noted in the table above, the molecular size of the Hydrocarbon is only 41.1. while R22 is 86.5 and R410a is 72.6! This is less than half of that of R22 and is thus twice the surface area in a confined space relative to R22 refrigerant.

When measuring the performance of refrigerants, the larger the surface area, the more heat will be dissipated. Hydrocarbon refrigerant is therefore able to reject heat much faster at any point in time from the air-conditioning systems relative to R22 and R410a refrigerants.

Refrigerant Efficiency

How fast a refrigerant is able to transfer heat at any point in time is measured in joules per gram.

Hydrocarbon refrigerant is able to transfer heat at the rate of 367 joules per gram and is regarded as one of the most efficient natural refrigerants in the market today.

In comparison, R22 refrigerant is only able transfer heat at the rate of 163 joules per gram.

Hydrocarbon is therefore 125% more efficient as a refrigerant relative to R22 and R410a.

The combination of the molecular size, refrigerant efficiency and lower head pressures due to the hydrocarbon refrigerant, all help contribute to reduced wear and tear on each system. This could save thousands of dollars in maintenance costs and will increase the standard operating life of the compressor and other parts.

Lubricant Miscibility

The lubricant is an integral ingredient in the optimal functioning on any compressor in the air-conditioning unit.

For R22 refrigerant, it is only able to work with mineral oil. Any other oil used in conjunction with R22 refrigerant will lead to compressor failure.

For R410a refrigerant, it can only work with synthetic oil. Any other oil used in conjunction with R410a refrigerant will lead to multiple problems and failure also.

Oz-Chill hydrocarbon refrigerant is miscible with both mineral and synthetic lubricants and is therefore a “drop-in” replacement for R22 and R410a refrigerants.
